Sites for sore ears...
Information, pdf downloads, and links at The European Coalition for Silent Oceans.
Their 'partners' page gives many links. In several languages.
The Humane Society of the United States has an enormous site. There are pages devoted to Sonar: Acoustic Harassment which give links to pdf downloads and to other articles. A lot of information here.
On this page, Dr Naomi Rose (marine mammal scientist for the HSUS and its international arm, Humane Society International) says: "The more we learn about the threat of active sonar, the more it appears we've seen only the tip of the iceberg."
This article also points out that “In fact, the British Royal Navy plans to deploy at least 12 low frequency sonar systems in the near future.”
At least some of those twelve systems probably have some connection with this place.
BUTEC : British Underwater Test and Evaluation Centre. (I read somewhere else, that DERA was the first part of the BUTEC name - Defence Evaluation and Research Agency - but can't find that article again - or that name, amidst sunnyspeak such as 'inspiring' 'helpful' and 'innovative' on the Qinetiq site).
QinetiQ BUTEC is at Kyle of Lochalsh, Ross-shire, IV40 8AJ. Tel: +44 (0)1599 534262.
This article, on the seaflow site, tells that the Butec has an underwater range in the Inner Sound. (That’s a place-name, not a description of activities).
This little video at seaflow gives a brief illustrated introduction to lfas. Not so sunnyspeak.

Poem
This poem is my first contribution to the Ecotone project.
The topic there today is OceanAndSea...
* * * * * * *
Whales beach with bleeding ears
in places they've rarely been seen.
Fleeing naval noise, aural atrocity,
sonic attack.
Unimaginable assault, irreparable rips
in the fabric of Creation.
Our seas - while we are here -
being blasted by brats
testing
the limits of our times.
Loud orphans drowning out
Ancient lullabies of the Sea.
Their unholy sounds
wreaking havoc upon
Ancestral calling.
This armour brings damage
to our home.
There is no defence
for such killing.
Sunk treasures of knowing
in liquid depth echoes
of navy hearts beating:
Waiting to be heard.
